Sophie is Engaged! Discover All the Details of Her Surprise Proposal

It is common knowledge that jewellery designers are the hardest to surprise with an unexpected proposal. The stress of finding the perfect ring. The pressure to impress someone who is surrounded by jewellery 24/7. It’s enough to put off all but the most determined of fiancés-to-be. It is with great delight, then, that we can reveal that team SB managed to pull off the near-impossible by facilitating a surprise proposal for none other than Sophie herself.

To say we are proud is an understatement. With months of furtive phone calls, sneaky discussions and a clandestine meet-up or two, over Christmas we finally received the word from France. Sophie had hiked to the top of a snowy mountain with her partner, where she was presented with the tsavorite engagement ring we had arranged to have secretly crafted in our London workshop, whom we have worked with for more than a decade.

“I had absolutely no idea that all this was happening behind the scenes,” says Sophie of her bespoke engagement ring, which was designed by her new fiancé, in collaboration with Tati, our production manager. “Not only do I have a beautiful tsavorite ring - my favourite gemstone to work with - I am in awe of my colleagues, who managed to keep the proposal completely under wraps while working side by side with me.”

Sophie’s fiancé originally meant the engagement ring to be a placeholder, with the intention of upgrading it to something more extravagant at a later date. However, Sophie loves it so much that there are no plans for an upgrade in the future. “The simplicity of the design is 100% my style,” she says. “I like my jewellery to be easy to wear and not too elaborate. The cushion cut tsavorite is bezel set in 18 carat yellow gold, which really accentuates its colour and shape. It’s perfect.”

The tsavorite is a particularly meaningful choice for the couple. Only mined in one place in the world - Kenya - Sophie’s future father-in-law was born and raised there. In 2022, Sophie and her fiancé took their first trip to Kenya together, where they visited the tsavorite mines and sourced some lush green gems to bring home with them. Read the story here.

Now that the celebrations have died down at SB HQ, the next question is: what wedding ring will Sophie choose to accompany her engagement ring? With her nuptials planned for this summer, as soon as she’s decided, you can be sure we will update you.
